Pretty Dead Flowers

We don't always have to bloom to be beautiful.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Pretty Dead Flowers is a visual exploration of mental well-being, vulnerability, and different emotional states.

At the heart of the series are children and the recurring motif of a wilted flower. Sometimes the figures hold the flower in their hands; at other times, it is subtly integrated into the composition or almost hidden. The flower becomes a metaphor for periods when something within us is not in bloom - moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, or emotional stagnation. At the same time, it carries the central message of the series: just because something is not blooming does not mean it has lost its beauty or worth.

The children emphasize the vulnerability and sensitivity of these emotional states. Their calm, neutral, or sometimes smiling expressions deliberately contrast with the wilted flower, creating a tension between what is happening internally and what is visible on the outside. Vulnerability and strength, heaviness and joy can exist at the same time.

The title Pretty Dead Flowers reflects this contradiction. Something wilted is often seen as something past its prime, something that is no longer beautiful. The series seeks to challenge this perception, suggesting that beauty exists not only in blooming, but also in change, vulnerability, and moments when not everything is okay.
