The painting shows a single sunflower that’s starting to wilt, but it’s still full of strong, vivid colors. It’s part of “Pretty Dead Flowers”, a motif I created and keep coming back to in my works. Through these flowers, I talk about mental health - about feeling drained or less bright, without losing your value.
Sunflowers are usually all about happiness and warmth. Letting one wilt makes room for another kind of truth: even joy can get tired, and even tired things can still be beautiful.
Medium: Oil Pastel on Paper
Size: A5 14.8 × 21.0 cm (5.83 × 8.27 in)
Signed on Back

This piece is part of my Morning Sketch Series - little paintings I make while sipping my morning coffee.
